Stivichall Achieves Coventry Peace Award

Pupils and staff receive recognition of their learning and work related to peace and reconciliation.

Stivichall Primary School were delighted this week to receive news that we have been awarded the Coventry Peace and Reconciliation Award. The scheme was launched in 2020 by the Coventry Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation. The aim of the scheme is to enable young people to have a voice in promoting peace and reconciliation – at a personal, local and global level.

Throughout 2020, our pupils have engaged in a range of activities promoting peace through whole school events such as Inter-faith week and World Religion Day which raised awareness of different faith communities across the UK. The school was also decorated beautifully by all pupils in November to mark the importance of peace in the approach to Remembrance Day.

Pupils have also taken part in many Coventry peace initiatives such as entering the Peace Poetry competition and attending the War Memorial Park each year to mark Remembrance Day. Our school has also been part of many national and international peace initiatives such as our involvement in the Peace Noh Theatre Company schools project which resulted in children’s work being displayed in the Embassy of Japan in London and also a number of our pupils have been involved in the planning and construction of the Japanese Peace Garden in the War Memorial park, making regular visits to the site.

Our award recognised the dedication of school staff to creating a school in which pupils feel ‘safe , welcomed and valued’ and that an emphasis has been placed on pupil and staff wellbeing throughout a very challenging year.

We are very proud of our whole school family.
