3rd February 2012
Dear Parents

School News

  • Our Girl’s Cross-Country Squad ran well in the City Championships last week.  Both A and B teams finished in second place and received silver medals and shields.  Hannah in Year 6 won the ‘B’ race and received a gold medal.
  • Parents meetings with teachers commence on Monday 6th February.  You should already have an appointment by now so please contact your child’s class teacher if this is not the case.  On Tuesday afternoon the Year 5 and 6 teachers will be in the large hall and children’s work will be available for parents in the circulation space outside the hall.
  • Lost property can be found on a rail in the entrance between 1/2M and 3P classrooms.  Please feel free to check the many items stored there.  Any clothes with names marked on them will be returned, but sadly we have many items with no names.

Scholastic Book Fair is Coming!
The Scholastic book fair will be in school after the spring half term from Monday 27th February until Thursday 1st March.  This event is a ‘buy one, get one free’ opportunity, as a way of saying “Thank you” for supporting us at the September fair.  We raised over £1000.00 for new books during the September book fair.  We will be taking no commission this time – you will!  The spring book fair will run from 8.30 – 8.55 am and 3.35 – 4.15 pm on each day.

We are still in desperate need of helpers to help run the book fair so please complete the form sent out last week or let Ms. Halliday know if you can help.  The book fair will not be able to run without your support.

Safer Internet Day
This will be held on Tuesday 7th February 2012 and we will be promoting safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile internet.

The focus this year is “connecting generations and educating each other” so please do talk to your child about internet safety.

Mothers Day Assembly
This will be performed by Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th March at 2.00 pm.

Due to the high demand we will be staging two performances this year and tickets will be issued.  Hopefully, this will create a more comfortable environment for parents and children alike.

Dental survey of 5 year old children
It is the duty of Primary Care Trusts to plan health services and we would like to know more about dental health to help us.  To do this we look at the teeth of groups of 5 year old children every two years.  Children in Reception and Year 1 who are 5 years of age on Monday 5th March will bring a consent letter home today for you to read and complete.  Please return the form to school as soon as possible.

Netball
Netball club will start again on Tuesday 21st February and every Tuesday thereafter with a finishing time of 4.45 pm.  Pupils from year 6 are welcome!

Fun Club Easter and Summer Playscheme
The Easter playscheme will run from 16th – 20th April inclusive.  All children are welcome to join us for a full fun-filled programme of activities, trips and visitors.  Booking is essential and forms will be available from the 27th February from both the Fun Club or the school office.

The Summer playscheme will run as follows:

  • Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th and Friday 17th August
  • Monday 20th – 24th August
  • Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th, Thursday 30th, Friday 31st August
  • Monday 3rd September

Maths Club
Year 4 Maths club after school on Tuesday 7th February has been cancelled due to Parents Evening.  The club will restart after half term.

Are you a parent or carer of a child with ASD or ADHD?
Would you like to meet with other parents/carers and discuss how the new HOPE/Parents free self-management course could help?  There will be a “taster” day on Wednesday 8th February, 11.00 to 1.00 pm to be held at Coventry Carers.  For further information please contact: Gill Fleckner at Coventry Carers Centre on 024 7663 2972 or email gillfleckner@coventrycarers.org.uk or ring Wendy on 07981 487298.

Woodland Project
The local Woodland Project will be having a litter pick around Stivichall common on the morning of Saturday, February 11th between 10 am – 12 noon.  Meet on the open land by the fountain at the end of Earlsdon Avenue for 9.45 am for a final briefing.  Parents and children are welcome.  If you have gardening gloves, or something similar, please bring them with you. Litter-pickers and sacks will be provided.

Zumbathon Charity Event
The above event takes place on Sunday 5th February at Hereward College, Tile Hill 2.00 – 4.00 pm to raise funds for an up and coming Judo Player, currently ranked Britain’s No. 2 in under 20’s age group.  Please support if you can!
