Are you safe?
Dear Parents,
We at Stivichall School believe in using the Internet as a powerful learning tool that allows children to access an amazing range of materials which can be used to enhance learning. The internet allows children to view and use learning materials which they may not otherwise have access to.
The Government has encouraged the use of the internet through its creation and support of the National Grid for Learning (NGfL). Coventry LEA has received funding to support this and has initiated a "Coventry Schools On-Line Project" (CSOP), which has resulted in a very significant increase in the quality and the quantity of IT equipment in school.
We place a great deal of importance on the safety of our children when using the internet, especially considering the issues which have been in the media recently. We have rules for children who access the net in school, as stated below, and all adults who work with the children on the internet in school have to sign a copy of the school's "acceptable internet use statement". This is monitored by the Head teacher, the ICT Co-ordinator and the ICT Technician. We never use chat rooms in school and we cannot emphasise strongly enough that you should speak to children about their use. The links page on this site contains a list of sites that you should visit for help and advice relating to Internet Use.
Please contact the school if you have any questions relating to any aspect of internet use.

Rules for responsible Internet use
The school has installed computers and the internet access to help our learning. These rules will keep everyone safe and help us be fair to others.
- I will only access the system once my teacher has put in the password and will not make any attempts to log in on my own;
- I will not access other people's files;
- I will not bring in floppy disks or CD's from outside school unless I have been given permission;
- I will only use the computers for school work not homework;
- I will ask permission from a member of staff before using the Internet (even if for some reason a previous user has left the Internet logged on.)
- I will only e-mail people, my teacher has approved;
- The messages I send will be polite and responsible;
- I will not give my home address or telephone number, or arrange to meet someone, unless my parents, carer or teacher has given permission;
- I will report any unpleasant material or messages sent to me. I understand my report would be confidential and would help protect pupils and myself;
- I understand that the school may check my Computer files and may monitor Internet sites that I visit;
- I will not print anything or access any site without the
teacher's permission.

Here are some sites that have been recommended to us
Ask for kid’s is a children’s version of Ask.com. On it, you can search for things like ‘What is it like to live in space?’, and it will give you appropriate links to web pages which can give you the answer.
Yahoo Kids is a brilliant website for children. It has Games, Trailers, Jokes, News and Homework Help. So you can always check it out and it’s safe!!!!
